How to generate three times more income than last year:

There is a longer version of this success story. So, it has been shortened. The client who achieved this has worked hard for many years. Here’s what happened. We worked together for about 2 years until mid-2011. At the end of January 2012 the client handed me their 1099 for the tax year of 2011. It was approximately 3 times more than they had earned in the previous year. It is well into 6 figures and while it isn’t a half million it is looking directly at it. It’s about 10 minutes away.

When I saw the 1099 I thought the business had been sold! So naturally I asked what had made the difference. Here’s the summary. They started holding the sales and service staff accountable to key performance indicators we’d established. In other words, make the sales calls, generate the business, do the work! Accountability is critical to everyone’s  success. When you are at work, work. When you are at home, be at home with  your family. Don’t try to mix them.

And they stopped being a friend at work. Don’t confuse this with not being congenial and understanding. As an employee don’t expect your boss to be your best buddy. As the boss, treat your employees with respect and dignity, but demand performance. Pretty simple.

Next, the client works about 2 hours more each day. Education is a major part of their daily routine with reading and listening to CDs. So they are congruent with their disciplines and expect nothing less from others. That’s ok to do!

Now, would you like to know how many vacations the client took in 2011? Yes, you would…three. That’s 3! Holy smoke, they took time off and enjoyed themselves and still achieved an increase of 3X the 2010 income?!
